In fact, financial institutions may start taking legal actions against debtors. Once a judgment is obtained, financial institutions can normally get an interest-bearing stake against the credit card borrower for up to 10 years, with the right to renew it for another 10.
The new law also requires that a debtor undergo credit counseling six months before filing for bankruptcy.

Removing old closed accounts that don't have any negative items is a bad idea simply because you benefit from a long credit history and those accounts speak to that credit history.
Your lender may have a different perspective. Lenders are apt to penalize you for having too much available credit, fearing you'll snap one day and go on a spending binge that is well beyond your means.

And as for receiving your credit report via fax, all three credit agencies said they've hung up on that possibility. It's just not secure.
Beginning this September, residents of Pennsylvania will be able to get their credit report for free, but only once each year.
